Alec Baldwin hinted that last night was his final performance as Donald Trump on SNL

Looks like he’s hanging up the wig.

THE FINALE OF the 42nd season of Saturday Night Live aired last night, with The Rock taking on the presenting duties for the fifth time.

This series will be remembered for two things: Melissa McCarthy’s transformation into Sean Spicer and, of course, Alec Baldwin’s impression of President Donald Trump.

And the cold open featured the President on the piano singing Hallelujah

It was a strangely poignant scene given the tumultuous week in US politics

And he ended the performance with an apt line:

“I’m not giving up… because I didn’t do anything wrong. But I can’t speak for these people”

But, as Baldwin portrayed the President not giving up, others speculated that the finale marked the last episode Baldwin himself would play Trump.

A series of tweets before and after the show hinted that this was his last hurrah

“One more time” and “I dreamed I did a season of SNL” are the main indicators that his iconic impression might be finished.

This was backed up by comments he made back in March to the Press Association where he speculated that Season 42 could be his last:

After that, I don’t quite know. I don’t quite know if people want to continue with that. If everything stays the same in the country as it is now, I don’t think people will be in the mood to laugh about it come September.

Quite.

If it does turn out to be the last ever Baldwin version of Trump, a dramatic playing of Hallelujah is some way to go.

Meanwhile, The Rock’s opening monologue featured even more talk that he might run for President – and he brought out Tom Hanks as his “running mate”

You don’t know what to believe any more.
